On June 3, Google introduced a "generative AI performance report" inside Search Console, the free tool site owners use to see their search data. It shows how often a page shows up inside AI Overviews (the AI summary at the top of results) and AI Mode. The rollout started with a handful of UK site owners; by August 12, multiple outlets were reporting that the report now appears in most accounts. Google has not announced a full rollout on its own.
What's new — and what still isn't there
The report shows impressions: how many times your pages appeared inside AI features, which pages they were, which countries and devices, and how that changes over time. That's it. There's still no click data, no click-through rate, and no query data. Until now, checking whether your content was being cited by AI meant bolting on a third-party tool like Microsoft Clarity or digging through server logs. Google surfacing its own data directly is genuinely new — but for actually confirming you're being cited, it's still half the picture.
What's certain and what isn't — Google's help documentation is explicit about when the report won't appear: "Your site hasn't received enough impressions in generative AI features on Google Search." There's no official Google announcement that the rollout is complete, and the "visible in most accounts" observation on August 12 comes from industry outlets, not Google confirmation (as checked August 14, 2026). An empty report doesn't mean something's wrong with your site — it may simply mean you don't have enough AI-feature impressions yet.
If your site gets 100 visitors a week
Open this report, but keep expectations low. The AI briefing site this project runs logged 65 total search impressions and zero clicks across all of regular Search Console (checked August 3, 2026) — impressions inside AI Overviews and AI Mode alone are almost certainly fewer than that. At this scale, opening the report will likely just show "not enough impressions," and that's an honest result, not a broken feature. Three things worth doing anyway: ① check once whether the report has appeared in your account (it shows up as a separate "Generative AI" section next to regular Search results) ② bookmark it even while it's empty and check back every month or two — it fills in silently as impressions accumulate, with no notification ③ keep tracking what you can already see instead — brand searches, and how many of your pages get cited elsewhere.
